Give away a theme

I’ve essentially finished work on my teaching portfolio. There is one problem with categories not working correctly and I am waiting for a respone on the EE forums - I’ve checked the docs 10 times and am positive I’ve got it coded correctly. Until I get this fixed I am not ready to add content to the site.

This means I’ve got some design time freed up since I haven’t yet acquired a paying client. In order to build up some traffic and improve my portfolio I’m going to design a site theme to give away. I remember some recent threads (can’t find them) where new users were inquiring about free themes and looking for three column designs so I’m going to build something like that.

At this point I’m not sure what to do for the graphics or look of the site - should I go for a business type design or more of a blog type design? What kind of features should I build into the theme directly. I’ll design first for EE and then if I have time port it to wordpress as well.

Any thoughts?

About Me

This blog is my journey to professional web design and development. Here I will write about code and things I learn about xhtml, css, javascript, jquery, Expression Engine, Wordpress and any other CMS I need to use in my new career.

I will be adding links to the sidebar as I find useful resources and blogs. I'm also looking forward to getting feedback from other designers and developers. Thanks for dropping by.
